Want the Best BBQ Chicken Wings you will ever have tasted? I love the wings. I can’t believe how amazing these air fryer chicken wings are so Crispy,  smothered with my own Bbq recipe, It’s to die for!! With all the millions of cookbooks and recipes out there. There are so many ways you can let your creative side out when cooking chicken, it astounds me. From soups, main dishes, marinades, sauces, and just plain grilling them any time of the year. However, once you taste the results of these bbq wings, you will admit these are finger-licking good!!

Do you enjoy watching test kitchen shows (like I do) and browsing cooking websites, chances are you’ve come across the tip of incorporating baking powder into chicken skin to aid in crisping it up during cooking. That was one of those aha moments for me, too. If you haven’t, well, now you know. Typically, I don’t use baking powder for this purpose, but I’ve recently decided to give it a try. I’m still undecided on its effectiveness. While I’m inclined to believe it does make a difference, I need to conduct further taste tests to be certain. Given that air fryers are notorious for yielding rubbery chicken skin when the chicken isn’t adequately dried, a dash of baking powder seems like a sensible addition, wouldn’t you agree?

Best BBQ Chicken Wings

I love wings, so while compiling all of my recipes into this blog, I spent time cooking up the different recipes to make sure that they are delicious and just right. However, this is the basic sauce recipe I use for my holiday hams.

Usually, I would have taken a quick trip through the KFC’s drive-thru just to get the Best BBQ Chicken Wings. Furthermore, anytime I crave honey bbq sauce, sometimes this recipe will be the easiest thing I use for a quick and easy snack or meal will do and hit the spot.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

For Baking method:

**Make sure to pat chicken dry before seasoning. Once you season and coat chicken you will place them on the cooling rack in a single layer and place in a fridge for at least 30 minutes. For a thicker coat, place in coat mix again and dust off excess.

**NO OIL NEEDED -The oil from the chicken wings will break down and when combined with the salt and baking powder will form a crunchy crust that is to die for.

**Air-Fryer Method: The wings are first air-fried on medium heat to cook the interior and then the heat is turned up to 400F to crisp up the skin. However, the result is chicken wings that are soft and tender on the inside and super crispy on the outside.

**Bake in the conventional oven or Oster Convection Oven on 375°  degrees for 30 minutes.

Why Baking Powder?

Baking powder; Using Baking Powder is optional since you are using an Air Fryer. And, if you pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel real well. Furthermore, it’s a mixture of sodium bicarbonate, cream of tartar, and cornstarch. Moreover, when mixed with salt and coated on chicken it dries out the skin, leaving it extra crispy and crunchy.

Best BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients

  • 2 lb chicken wings
  • Honey BBQ Sauce recipe
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup Perfect Blend Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Johnnys all-purpose seasoning
  • bunch fresh parsley (garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse chicken wings and pat dry.
  2. Season wings with Johnny’s
  3. Sift together almond, Perfect Blend flour, and baking powder. 
  4. Place the mixture in a deep dish or Ziploc bag and coat wings several at a time.
  5. Place wings in the air fryer in a single layer and spaced apart.
  6. When done, place wings in a serving dish and smother with bbq sauce.
  7. When ready to plate, garnish with parsley (optional)
  8. Enjoy!!

NOTE

Serve the bbq wings with celery and carrot sticks on the side with either bleu cheese or ranch dressing.

To spice things up, add crushed red pepper with the seasoning and flour mixture.
